I Am Bread is a brilliant commentary about our society today. Developed by Bossa Studios, who brought you Surgeon Simulator 2013, you are a piece of bread allowing anyone to experience this gem of a game and project themselves onto this avatar. This game should be played by everyone.
In I Am Bread you navigate each level to try and become toast. This is a perfect analogy for what you can go through to change yourself just to be accepted. you will be traversing area’s trying to avoid anything that would make you “uneatable” such as water and any sort of dirt.
Being “uneatable” is the same as not being wanted by the person of your affection, you just want to be eaten so you try to change yourself into toast.
The levels get harder and more insane as you play on forcing you to always think about what you next move will be.
You have a limited amount of grip to maneuver around and try to make it to object and areas that will help you get to where you can be toasted properly.
Everything in this game can be represented in real life from the ants that are corporate and try to take you down with them, or trying to avoid being stepped on as shown through big boot prints in the level.
I think people like Anita Sarkeesian should take note of this game and should hail it for a masterpiece. With such a all inclusive avatar like this wonderful piece of bread that has to go through so many challenges just to be accepted by someone and maintain our “grip” on things. It’s everything someone as outspoken Feminist Frequency could even get behind.
I used a controller when I played through this and I can’t imagine the hell it would be to go through with keyboard controls. On controller you move around by using the right / left triggers and bumpers to gain a grip on object, walls, and surfaces.
This game is HARD, ball busting hard, and that works for this title. with it’s control system and concept, that was programmed after a drunk acid induced nightmare, insane level design that would make Van Gogh look twice, and the fact that you are timed, would make this game great for speed runs.
I Am Bread is a rage game, or at least it was for me, and I will be honest when I say I wanted so bad to rip this game apart, but i have to be fair.
It was designed to be played by Youtubers and Twitch streamers. If games like Surgeon Simulator 2013, QWAP, or any of the other hundreds of those types of games, then this is right up your ally. For me, I will be staying as far away from this game as I can get, as I nearly broke a controller during my play through.
Final Verdict – for youtubers, streamers, speed runners, and masochists
